Last weekend, a small group of our family celebrated Mom's 83rd birthday. Of course, since everyone this side of Heaven knows of Mom's love of ice cream, we had ice cream in abundance.

We not only had an ice cream cake, but also an ice cream sundae bar complete with lots of toppings: caramel and chocolate sauces, hot fudge, pecans, bananas, cherries, blueberries, whipped cream, sprinkles, coconut and a few more I just can't remember.

Mom got lots of very nice gifts, including home made candy, money, clothes, socks, slippers, and chocolates.

March 7-Mom's Actual Birthday
This year Mom and I celebrated her birthday in the doctor's office getting an examination and x-ray of her knee. Turns out this young 83 year old has a bit of the old arthritis in the knee joint. Medication, ice, and a cane for a week, then back to the doctor for a possible shot if all doesn't heal up quickly.

The Celebration Continues
Lou and I continued Mom's birthday celebration with one more event. Last night we went to Buca di Beppo for an awesome family style Italian dinner of spaghetti, salad, and garlic bread. Mom loves Buca's, so we thought it would be a great place to take her and help her get a little exercise for her knee.

Since the wait staff knew it was Mom's birthday, they did their famous birthday song complete with the "birthday finger" and wine bottle candle. Mom enjoyed the song and the attention.

Even Lou got in the act by singing Mom his own version of "Hey Goombadi" at table. It was hysterical.

Of course, we couldn't end the evening without one more ice cream. We tried the new Oscars near Mom's house. She managed to eat a double scoop dish of vanilla custard quite easily.
